Root is a game of adventure and war where 2 to 4 players (or up to 6 with expansions like Riverfolk, Underworld, or Marauder) battle for control of a vast wilderness. Each player commands a completely different faction with unique abilities and their own victory condition — no two players ever play the same way.
In this gorgeously illustrated world, the nefarious Marquise de Cat has seized the great woodland, intent on harvesting its riches. Under her rule, the forest creatures have banded together into a scrappy Alliance that works to strengthen its resources and subvert the Cats’ control. The Alliance can even enlist the help of wandering Vagabonds, lone adventurers who move through dangerous paths and may or may not share the Alliance’s dreams. But the Vagabonds remember the great birds of prey who once ruled the woods — and at the edge of the region, the proud, squabbling Eyrie have found a new commander, hoping to reclaim their ancient birthright.
Every game, players drive the narrative, and the deep differences between each role create an unparalleled level of interaction and replayability. With the aid of gorgeous, multi-use cards, Root makes truly asymmetric design more accessible than ever. Leder Games invites you and your family to explore the fantastic world of Root — where the fate of the woodland rests in your hands, and only one group will ultimately take root.
